Katarzyna Lewandowska - w meeting within the framework of re.act.feminism #2, Wyspa Institute of Art:

12th of April (Thursday)
6 PM / Wyspa Institute of Art
Admission free

A female artist became a Weird Creature, a Freak of Nature, a Peculiarity, an Exception, a Weirdie. Because she denied nature (the nature of a woman). The Disobedience towards the omniscient Father, the Other, Phallus, Language, Harmony, Mind, Sight, Constancy, and Logos permitted her to retain her identity and her feminine "I", to float naked in the world of instincts, develop the feminine creative power and wisdom. The essence of the art of presented artists is total freedom, unleashed imagination, unrestrained desire, carnal love. They tell shamelessly about lust, the sensual perception of the world, „the parched body". Creation is a natural need and an inner necessity for these artists. They scoop up space to give it back transformed under the form of perverse female phantasms – banal, crazy, ecstatic, dangerous and tabooed.

Katarzyna Lewandowska
(born in 1973 in Łódź), an art historian and feminist, Buddhist. A lecturer of art history at the Nicholas Copernicus University in Toruñ. She co-operates with the CSW, the Wozownia Gallery in Toruñ and the Institute for the Middle and Far East Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. Her interests concentrate on carnality in contemporary art and she often restores to the discourse of feminist philosophy (Lucy Irigaray, Helene Cixous) as a source of specific language, which incorporates other senses than sight into the analysis of art. She lives in Toruń.
