In 2011 the International Polish Arts Festival in Southend-on-Sea (UK), staged the premiere event of Once Upon a Deadline in Translation. Six Polish writers were brought to Southend-on-Sea and wrote a 1500-word creative short in Polish. The stories were translated into English and read aloud at a live public event known as the ‘read-off’.
Building on the successful 2011 event, Once Upon A Deadline in Translation will take place in two locations and two cities in 2012: Günter Grass Gallery in Gdańsk (Poland) and Metal Gallery in Southend-on-Sea.

On Saturday 25 August, five British writers will be taken to five secret locations around Gdańsk to write the 1500-word short story inspired by the City. They might be found in the shipyards, on Mariacka street, in Wrzeszcz at the birthplace of the printing press, the Academy of Music or a Church.

With stories translated from English into Polish, a live public ‘read-off’, will take place on the 26th of August at 7.30 p.m., during the closing of exhibition Grass-Watercolours at G4 | the Günter Grass Gallery .
