13 June (Friday )
19:00 hours / Hall 90B, the premises of the former Gdańsk Shipyard
The Wyspa Institute of Art
the Wyspa Progress Foundation
invite you to this year’s edition of the main Alternativa
show at Hall 90B on the former premises of the Gdańsk Shipyard. The exhibition, entitled Everydayness
, prepared by curators: Beatrice Josse
and Aneta Szyłak
turns out attention to small gestures, recurring activities, elusive forms, daily duties, intimate moments and vanishing words.
The participants of the exhibition are: Chantal Akerman, Helena Almeida, Maria Thereza Alves, Emanuelle Antille. Kader Attia, Patty Chang, Edith Dekynd, Alicia Framis, Yona Friedman, Marco Godinho, Rebeen Hamarafiq, Maria Laet, Hiwa K, Alicja Karska & Aleksandra Went, Igor Krenz, Honorata Martin, Anette Messager, Gianni Pettena, Ed Pien, Józef Robakowski, Martha Rosler, Raeda Sa’adeh, Ania Witkowska
and Julita Wójcik.
Next to the exhibition at Hall B90, there will be artists’ interventions by Elżbieta Jabłońska
, the Lendlabor
group and Jacek Niegoda
both in its vicinity and the area around the Wyspa Institute of Art. We encourage you to discover these sites. Be watchful and wary!
At the opening, Barbara Gamper
will realise her activity, engaging the public. Anna Kalwajtys and her team will make a reconstruction of a performance of Helena Almeida
. A group of people who have realised the work, will give a final shape to Gianni Pettena’s
"Paper". You will run across art works which encourage you to direct participation – in Alicia Framis’s
work you will be able to write your wishes in sympathetic ink and leave them. In the streets of Gdańsk you will be able to see Jean-Christoph Norman
writing with chalk on tarmac and pavements.
This everydayness, both subtle and tactical, known from the writings of Lefebvre and de Certeau, will be shown against the background of other Alternativa exhibitions and strategic analyses of political, economic and social issues, spread in time, such as Oliver Ressler’s exhibition Political Visions. The World Anew
, still open until 15 June or the exhibition In Another Way, opening in June, and Hito Steyerl’s Abstract
, planned for this autumn and winter.
We invite you to view the main exhibition every day, except Mondays, from 11.00 a.m. to 6 p.m., even until 30 September.
The exhibition is a part of the Alternativa 2014 framework.
