A full-length feature film and Derek Jarman’s debut (1976) leads the viewers in a blasphemous interpretation of St. Sebastian’s hagiography. This bold picture, saturated with homoeroticism, spoken in the language of The Vulgate has been banned from the official distribution channels for dozens of years.

Rome, year 303 AD. Christians fall victim to the Emperor Diocletian’s fury, who accuses the followers of Christ of the instigation of a series of devastating fires. During the annual Bacchanalia, Sebastian – an emperor’s favourite falls into his disgrace, because he defended a boy accused of the participation in arsons. Sentenced to banishment, an emperor’s former pet becomes a soldier, barracking in a provincial camp. Centurion Severus, the local commander, falls in love with Sebastian. However, Sebastian, engrossed in love with Christ, rejects Severus’s feelings, for which act he is sentenced to death.
